Pumpkin the guinea pig

I just wanted to let everyone know that Pumpkin passed away this weekend. She has been a part of my class since I became a lead teacher five years ago. She had an impact on a lot of children and families. She was a very big part of our class over the years. A few weeks after school started I could tell that she has not doing good so that’s why I stopped bringing her to class. I have talked with the children about her staying at home because she didn’t feel good and that Mikayla’s pig would start visiting us. Her name is Leona.  I won’t come out and talk about Pumpkin unless it is brought up. I just want to warn you in case it comes up we will talk about it and then talk about what a great pig she was.

Class Parties
We are having our class parties on Thursday October 31st and Friday November 1st. There will be sign-up sheets out for party treats. The children are invited to wear costumes if they want and we will parade around the school before the party. The morning parties will be at 10:30 and the afternoon party will begin around 2:00!

October Family Fun Night Tuesday starting at 5:30
We will be highlighting the importance of dramatic play and different aspects of early literacy. Come in your Halloween costume and enjoy some of the teacher’s favorite stores, then stay for our Costume contest. There are 5 different categories this year and the winner from each will receive $10 off of next month’s tuition. The categories are: cutest, best homemade, most creative, best family themed, and spookiest.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we will be talking about things that scary us and how we can feel ok when we are afraid. We will also talk about what is real and what is pretend. We will be making spiders and webs, creating scarecrows and little monsters!

Just a note

In case you are new to our school or were unaware parents are required to transport and stay with their child during our field trips. It’s a great time to meet and visits with other families! 

Blue Tie Dye Shirts
If you purchased a class t-shirt we will be sending them home Monday and Tuesday so they will have them for the Pumpkin Patch. If you haven’t paid for them please do so this week. Please wash them separately for the first 2 or 3 times.

Pumpkin Patch
Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch is this week!  We will meet at BiZi Farms on Thursday & Friday (Oct. 17th & 18th) at 10:00 for the morning classes and Thursday at 1:30 for the afternoon class. We like to meet about 15 minutes early if you can. Little Acorn pays for each child that is enrolled for one trip to the pumpkin patch with one adult.(Extra Adults attending are asked to pay $8 at the Farm) If siblings are joining us the cost is $5.00 for each extra child. You can pay for siblings in the store on the day of the field trip. The owners of the farm ask that your child be able to carry the pumpkin that the take home, they provide a bag for easier carrying. It can be a little muddy (if it rains between now and then) so boots are a good idea and towels for car can never hurt! The price includes: visiting the animals, mini-maze, hay pyramid, covered hay ride to the patch and a pumpkin. Remember to bring some quarters for grain to feed the goats!

Class Parties

Just a note

Pumpkin, our class guinea pig is not feeling so great :/. I will be keeping her home so she can hopefully start to feel better. She is an older guinea and I think going back and forth might be stressing her out. So for now we will keep her home. I will keep you posted on her.

Bathroom
We ask that you please take your child to the bathroom before class so they’re ready to go when they come to class or should I say they have already gone when they come to class ;) Even if they don’t need to use the restroom they can wash their hands before school. We appreciate this very much! 

Classroom Help
During the next few weeks we will be doing assessments for parent conferences and we would greatly appreciate your help during class time. If you can help us between 10:40 and 11:40 for am classes and 12:30 until 1:45 please email me so I can schedule you. This hour can be counted towards your volunteer time.

Pumpkin Patch

Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch is next week!
