Pictures
It’s not too late!! If we don’t have your pictures you can still send them in! J

We will be finishing up our projects with pictures this week.  We need a picture of your child doing something they enjoy and one of your family. Please send copies of these pictures as you will we keep them all year.

Bikes
Bikes will be out this week!  If your child would like to ride a scooter or bike please send a bike helmet for them to wear.  To ensure your child’s safety they must wear a properly fitted helmet to be allowed to ride the bikes.

Snapfish Album
Our Classroom Album is created and ready for your viewing!!  I will email you the link to the website and the unique classroom code.  If you don’t have a Snapfish account then you will have to sign up for one and then join our password protected group room.  This is a fun way for you to talk with your child about their day at school and you can have a snap shot of what their day looks like. J

Kindred Visit
We are visiting the grandma’s & grandpas at Kindred across the street Wednesday and Thursday this week for the first time this year.  (Thursday for the Afternoon Class)  This can be a little scary the first couple of times because it’s a new atmosphere and some of the residents are in wheel chairs and some are sleeping.  I will prepare the children for this by talking about how we all have similarities and differences.  If you could talk with your child with positive energy about this time we share there it would be very helpful.  This can be a very rewarding and joyful time in sharing our smiles & songs and that’s what we want to focus on.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we will finish up with our Wild about you theme and this will include Wild about our friends!   We didn’t quite as much done last week as I thought we would so we will trace our bodies, share the what I like pages and our family pictures.  We created a self-portrait last week that we will keep for our portfolios and this week we will work on one to send home.  We still need to measure our height and weight so we can track how much we grow this year!

Word Wall
I have decided to delay word wall until we start our “We’re WILD about Letters” theme on September 22nd.  The first letter we will feature is the letter Aa.  We decided to go in order so it would be easier for everyone to keep track of.

Just a note
We are off to a great start!!  I know last week was a little hectic but went very smoothly after class got going.  I really strive to build a classroom community and encourage families to get to know each other and bond outside school as well!  We will have a sign-up sheet for a directory to aid in this.  If you would like to be a part of this directory please sign up by Friday.

Pictures
We will be doing several projects with pictures this week (and next).  We need a picture of your child doing something they enjoy and one of your family. Please send copies of these pictures as you will we keep them all year.

Supplies
Thank you so much for all the supplies that we have received!! You guys rock! If you have turned in or are going to turn in a white binder with any of the other supplies listed it will count as 1/2 hour of your volunteer time!

Snapfish
I will be setting up our Snapfish album at the end of this week and sending you information regarding how to become a member of our group so you can view the pictures we take during our day.  I try to upload pictures once a week or every other week. Only members of our class can view these pictures as this group is private.  This is a great way to talk with your children about their day and their friends.

Word Wall
I have decided to delay word wall until we start our “We’re WILD about Letters” theme on September 22nd.  The first letter we will feature is the letter Ii.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class the theme is “We’re WILD about YOU!!” We will be sharing what our favorite colors, food, and activity is with our class. We will take pictures to document the first week in school, we will also weigh and measure each child to see how much they grow over the school year. We will be creating self-portraits and tracing our bodies this week. We will discuss what our bodies do and how we can keep them healthy. We will also begin to setup our portfolios and talk about the things we want to keep in their books.  I want it to reflect them and want them to take an interest and pride in what goes in their books.  We have several projects this week that involve pictures so if we don’t have your pictures please send them in this week.

Just a note
We are so excited to get this year started and get to know all of you!!  If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to talk with me, during the day might be a little crazy but I am always available via email Drhodeshz@msn.com  or phone (360)910-0982.

Drop Off
Drop off can be a little overwhelming but try to make it quick and be confident about it!  It is best after the first day to say goodbye at the door (for your child and others).  If it is too crowded in the classroom it can make children anxious.  I know the first days of school can be hard (on the parents more so than the children!)  but have confidence that your child is in good hands and we will take good care of your child. .  Let your child know you are excited for them through words and the energy that you send out to them.  Be confident and they will feel it

Newsletters
I will email the weekly newsletters to the email that you provided and they will be posted on the Little Acorn Website at http://lapskdragonfly.blogspot.com/ .  The website also has the monthly newsletter and snack menu for the month.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we are going to meet new friends and get to know our classroom!  Our day includes a circle time where we talk about the weather and day of the week, outside play, snack, story time, and then art & classroom exploration.  We will play with play dough and explore our classroom, meet new friends, and play outside.

Dragonfly Class Information

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is enjoying their last days of summer!  Here is some information for the first days.

Drop off and Pick Up
The first day of school is this coming Thursday September 4th, drop off for the morning class is at 9:00 am and 12:30 for the afternoon class. We have Staff children that come in before class begins but our doors will open to everyone else shortly after that. At pickup time the doors will open at 12:00 and 3:30, the children will be released one at a time so I can assure that they each get to the right adult.

Bikes
On days that it's not raining we will have the bikes out (I’m not sure about the first week of school though). If your child wants to ride the bikes or scooters they need to bring a helmet from home to wear. You can only ride a bike if you have a helmet.

Backpacks
What child doesn’t love to carry a backpack to school with them? Please have your child bring in a backpack each day with extra underwear (for children who use the toilet) or diapers (for those who may need them). An extra set of clothes should also be sent in the backpack, because accidents do happen. As you well know, at this age, there are many times when the kids get too busy playing and forget to use the restroom. There may also be situations when the kids will get wet from playing in the sensory table or from juice spills at snack time.

Please make sure that you write your child’s name on everything that you send to school with them (i.e. backpacks, coats, and other clothing). Coats and backpacks may be hung just outside our classroom’s door. At the end of each day, your child may take his or her backpack home- as well as the contents of their cubbies! This will give you the opportunity to refill diapers, and to choose “extra” clothes suitable for the weather! Just make sure that the bag is sent back to school with your child each day.

Birthdays/Holidays
Children love to have a party! We would like to encourage parents to bring in Food Free Treats such as pencils, stickers or something else small to give to the children or even better bring in a game to play with the children. You may bring a healthy treat to celebrate your child’s birthday (or un-birthday for children with summer birthdays). Just let us know in advance. If you are throwing your child a party outside of school we ask that you not put invitations in the cubby cans. Please contact them outside of school for party invitations. We do put together a class directory for those who want one with addresses and phone numbers of classmates. We understand that different families celebrate different holidays in different ways. If you have special holidays you celebrate in your family, please let us know! We’re open to your ideas and family traditions as we plan on celebrating various holidays!

Food in the Classroom
Because of the numerous benefits to eating healthy and the growing concerns of junk food, we as a class are going to eat as healthy as possible. We are starting a new cooking program through the Washington Dairy Council that encourages healthy eating and exercise. So as a general rule we ask that if you bring in treats for any reason birthday or other (like the Word Wall or Party) that you make it a food free treat or a healthy treat. We appreciate your understanding and help with our efforts to build healthy habits! J

Word Wall
We have a word wall that will feature a new letter every other week. We will begin the word wall the second week (Sept 15th) of school. I encourage you to help your children find words that begin with the letter of the week and they can bring them into share with our class. This helps the children to start thinking about beginning sounds and they can have a lot of fun with it. It also gives them an opportunity to share with their friends, which can help with their confidence in speaking in front of others.

Sharing
We will not have a scheduled “sharing” day or time in class. I suggest leaving toys at home. At school they could easily be lost or broken. Children are encouraged to bring items that relate to our theme anytime during the year. We do a Word Wall that highlights a letter for each week that I ask the children bring in items that start with the letter of the week. We usually do the word wall the last circle of the day and the items are put away in our pelican until the children share their items.

Dress
Please dress your child in “play clothes,” clothes that are okay to play in the dirt and paint in. We will be doing various activities where something may stain our clothes. We think they’re cute no matter what they are wearing! The only day that we encourage them to dress up is on picture day. (As soon as we get the dates for that, we will let you know.) Other than that day, play clothes are the best. Children who are worried about getting their clothes messy aren’t going to open to exploring their possibilities. Also, keep in mind when you are picking out their clothes that they should wear clothes that have buttons or snaps that are easy to undo so that when they have to go to the bathroom, they can be quickly undone.

So now that I have bombarded you with all this I hope you enjoy the last days of summer and we can’t wait to get our year started!!!

Thank you for sharing your lives with us

~Denise
