Dragonfly Class

March 16th, 2015
Early Release Tuesday March 17th
We will be releasing at 11:45 this Tuesday, I know this is short notice but because of our extended time this year we have decided that we need to release 15 minutes early in order for families to have time to pick their children up and grab some lunch before the parade.  You may want to pack a lunch to eat picnic style before heading down to the parade.

I apologize for any inconvenience this short notice might cause, if you have any concerns about picking your child up at 11:45 please don't hesitate to talk with me about it.

We hope to see you at the parade!  We will meet in front of Hough Elementary School at 12:15, Look for familiar faces and our banner.  

Hough Elementary is located at 1900 Daniels Street.

Family Art Show and Breakfast – We hope you will join us this Saturday

Book Fair
We will be hosting a scholastic book fair this week through our Family Breakfast on Saturday.
 
This week in the Dragonfly Class 
This week in the Dragonfly Class will be extending our exploration of art, we will be working on Art for the Art Show, we will be sorting our beautiful things, and exploring drawing people and animals.  I hope to do some original stories and later make a book for our class.
 
Auction
This year auction will be help on Saturday April 18th at Big Al’s! Tickets will be $18/person, or $34/couple until April 10th.  After April 10th , tickets will be $22/person or $40/couple. This is an adult-only night, and a night where we can have lots of fun, play games and have a good time. Families who purchase auction tickets will get free bowling coupons that can be used at a later date so they can bring their families back to enjoy the fun.

The letter of the week is Uu this week.  Please help your child bring in an item that begins with the letter U.  We will only be sharing items that are related to the letter of the week, so if it’s not obvious please give us hint. J

Dragonfly Class

Family Art Show and Breakfast
We want to serve you breakfast so mark your calendars for March 21st! We will showcase the children’s artwork and serve you and your family breakfast from 8-10 on Saturday March 21st. We love our families!!

Hough St. Paddy’s Day Parade
As a school we participate walking in the Hough St. Paddy’s Day Parade, which is on March 17th.  Every year Hough Elementary School puts on a St. Patrick’s Day Parade that starts at their school and winds downtown through Main Street.  It has turned into quiet a big local event.  For all those who would like to join us we will meet in front of Hough Elementary School between class release time and 12:30.  It is a good idea to bring a sack lunch and eat while we wait on the start of the parade.

This week in the Dragonfly Class 
This week in the Dragonfly Class will be exploring art, we will be mixing colors, painting with different types of brushes and materials.  We have some great books to read this week along with the science of color mixing. We will be painting faces during the week, it is water based pencil that washes off but I just wanted to give you a heads up!

Mad Scientist Basket
Our class basket for auction this year is a Mad Scientist Basket! If you want to help our school without spending a lot of money this is a great way to help us raise funds for our school. There are a lot of affordable items to sign up for this basket or you could add something of your own.  I realized I left off some essentials for every scientist so I will be adding those on another page.

This week in the Dragonfly Class 
This week in the Dragonfly Class will be celebrating Dr. Seuss! We will have Green Eggs and Ham on Monday and Tuesday. We will be doing activities for The Foot Book, Oh the Places you’ll go and of course Green Eggs and Ham!  We will be measuring our feet, making a map of the places we go, and creating our own Cat in the Hat. We will also be doing lots of rhyming this week!

Dragonfly Class

Family Fun Night
Come celebrate Dr. Seuss with us this Friday from 5:30 -7:00.  We will have crafts and games centered around Dr. Seuss Books. Your child can make a Wocket for their Pocket, Fish the Red Fish, Blue Fish pond, design their own Hat, and end the night with a Dance Party!!  Yes you read right a Dance Party!  Come show your moves off to Who let the Dogs Out, YMCA, Happy and Everything is Awesome!

 
Auction

Auction Baskets
Each year our class puts together a themed basket to bid on for our Auction.  We are looking for suggestions on a theme and then will collect items for it in the following weeks leading up to Auction.  I am open to suggestions or was thinking about doing A Beach Basket theme, please let me know your thoughts.

This week in the Dragonfly Class 
This week in the Dragonfly Class will explore the world of Wild Animals!  Last week we talked about Elephants, Lions and Peacocks. This week we will discuss Zebras, Giraffes and Monkeys.  We are looking forward to hearing all about the Animals that your child learned about doing the Wild Animal Report.  We will have life size Giraffe legs mounted in the hallway for the children to measure themselves by.

Dragonfly Class

Locks
We are looking for all different types of locks with keys for our class room.  I would like to have a bin that has different types and sizes of locks with keys as a manipulative exercise during our morning table time. So if you have some old locks that have the keys with them we would gladly take them off your hands.

Box Tops
A great way to help our school is through saving Box Tops! Turn in your box top sheet with your child’s name on it (or in a bag with your child’s name on it). An auction ticket will be given to the family who brings in the most Box Tops!

This week in the Dragonfly Class will explore the world of Wild Animals!  We will talk about what animals the children want to learn about and go from there.  We will send home Animal Reports for the children to do at home.  While they will need your guidance I want your child to take the lead in their learning.  When your child brings in their report we will talk about what they learned. J We will explore Wild Animals for the next two weeks.

Laps for LAPSK
We will be hosting a fundraiser where the children get pledges for how many laps the can run or walk.  This event turned out to be a lot of fun last year and I encourage you to all come join in! It will be held February 12th from 5:30 – 7:00.

Valentines
We will have a Valentines Celebration on February 11th and 12th.  If you would like your child to hand out Valentines on these days please send 15 for each day.  There is no need to address them but if you would please have your children practice writing their names.  We will have a few treats but not a big party.

Pajama Parties!
We will have our Pajama Parties this Wednesday & Thursday!  Children are invited to wear their Pajama’s to school and we will end our exploration of Nocturnal Animals with the Movie Stella Luna. 

 Registration: In-house (current students) February 4th at 9:15 in Jason Lee.  We will have a first come first serve number drawing starting at 8:45.  There will be coffee and snacks available for people waiting to register.

Open registration February 6th, 9:15 outside the office.
*For families who register for a PM class, we are asking that they also provide a second choice for a morning class in the case that we have low enrollment for the afternoons.

This week in the Dragonfly Class we are continuing our Nocturnal Animals exploration with Bats!  We will read Stella Luna, sings bats are sleeping and play a night and day dancing game.  We will be painting a night scene and learn some bat facts!
