June 16, 2014
Our last day in school is Wednesday June 18^th and we will have our All School Picnic at Felida Park Thursday June 19^th from 10-1 for morning and afternoon classes. The Little Acorn Staff will be cooking hot dogs and there is a signup sheet out for items to bring to share.  I love the all school picnics!  It’s nice to see the Little Acorn Community all together!

Lost and Found

There is a lost and found table located by the preschool office, please check to see if any of these items are yours.  If they are not picked up, they will be donated to The Share House.

Afternoon Classes

The Afternoon Class Graduation will start at 1:30 on Tuesday, with refreshments and slideshow to follow.  The drop off time is still 12:30 on Tuesday but after Graduation and the slideshow your child is free to leave with you.  Please turn in your All About Me Poster on Tuesday if you haven’t done that yet.  Regular class schedule on Wednesday for afternoon class.

This week in the Dragonfly Class

This week in the Dragonfly Class we will read Home For Hermit Crab.  This fits perfectly with our situation as we prepare to move on to new classrooms next school year.  The crab in the story decorates his shell and makes new friends.  He outgrows his shell and realizes he needs to go to a bigger shell so he leaves his shell for a smaller crab. We will also be visiting classrooms for next year as we talk about moving on.

Playground cleanup was a success, the playground looks amazing! Thank you for all who were able to help with this community duty.

Last Days of Class
I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by! I am honestly not ready for it to be over, I am going to miss your children so much. It has truly been an honor to share in your lives, thank you. Our last day in school is Wednesday June 18th and we will have our All School Picnic at Felida Park Thursday June 19th from 10-1 for morning and afternoon classes.

June Tuition
June Tuition is discounted! You only pay half of the normal tuition price for the month of June.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we be talking about it summer fun! We will be exploring summer activities and summertime food! Creating Kites, Watermelon, and Ice Cream Cones! We will be talking about summer fun this week and that school is almost over leading into next week’s discussion about moving onto a new class next year.

We have gone through all the letters so for the next few weeks we will bring in whatever we want. Talk with your child about rhyming this week!

Thank you all that could make it to Math & Science Night, a good time was had by all! I love seeing everyone interacting with each other and building our Little Acorn Community even stronger!

Bus Trip
Did you ask your child about the bus trip? What they saw on their adventure? I hope everyone was able to participate in our car counting experiment over the weekend, we will talk about the results this week in class.

Little Acorn still has openings for Preschool and Kindergarten!
There are still openings in a few morning & afternoon preschool classes and our Kindergarten is open for enrollment as well! So if you know anyone that is looking for a great place to start their school experiences send them our way! I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that during the week of June 10th I will be out, my daughter is graduating and all of our family is coming up from Arizona and Colorado to celebrate with us. I will be checking in during the day and coming in to practice graduation with the afternoon class that week. Teacher Jaylene from the Star Class will be joining Teacher Mikayla for that week.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we are going to start talking about travel, about different ways to travel and different places to go and see where what the children come up with. I hope it ends up with camping and the beach because I have a lot of fun stuff but I want them to take the lead so let’s see where they take us! We will be going on an “in-house” sort of field trip this Thursday & Friday (5-29 & 5-30) as travel around Vancouver on the Bus! Parents are welcome to join us but they aren’t required to. If you would like to join us the fare is $1.70 in exact change for adults, children are free. We will be catching the 3A Bus City Center Loop in front of the school at 10:12 on Thursday and Friday Morning and at 1:12 for the afternoon class on Thursday. We will be ready and waiting for the bus right around the hour for each trip. The loop takes about 45 minutes and we stay on during the entire trip.

Join In the Fun that’s yet to Come!
We have a lot of fun and important dates coming up so don’t miss out on the any of Fun that’s yet to Come! Math & Science Family Night May 30th, Summer Camp, Afternoon Graduation, & All School Picnics!

Math & Science Family Night
Come join us May 30th from 5:30 – 7:00 for our last Family Night where we will be playing a Life Size Board Game, we will test which items will sink or float? We will be making our own volcanos and paper airplanes! Making our a personal water cycle, not to mention experiencing the chemical reaction you get when you mix root beer and ice cream!!

Summer is sneaking up on us! Little Acorn is offering two weeks of different themed summer camps this year. The first week will offer Dinosaurs OR Disney and the second week will offer Pirates & Princess OR Legos. Each week will include outside water play each day! (As weather permits) Information is included in the link below!

I am working on progress reports and hope to have them all done and copied by the end of the week.

This week in the Dragonfly Class
This week in the Dragonfly Class we will let our butterflies go and hopefully all the caterpillars we made in class will also transform into butterflies and the children can take their cocoons home and open them up later this week. We are also going to start talking about travel, about different ways to travel and different places to go and see where what the children come up with. Spring Assessment & Progress Reports
We will be working on assessments over the next several weeks and Progress Reports will go home the middle of May. There are not official days scheduled for conferences but as any time during the year if you have any concerns please feel free to contact me.

As we look back through the year I really notice how much social growth has gone on!
We encourage children to have a voice for themselves when there is something bothering them or a peer is having a hard time keeping their hands to themselves. We even roll play this when it occurs and I can honestly say that I have seen significant growth in our class, we are always growing and learning, I learn from your children every day!  So please talk with your children about how to handle a situation if something is bothering them by using their voice by say “Stop! I don’t like that” and if that doesn’t work ask a teacher for help. We want your child to be able to have their own voice.
